Luring LGBT Travelers
Tolerance is alive and well in this heavenly stretch of sun-kissed shorelines, with restaurants, nightlife and Mexican flair galore. As it’s grown, and as Mexico strives to become one of Latin America’s most LGBT-friendly destinations, the Riviera Maya has made sure to include and improve upon getaways and experiences for same-sex singles, couples and families.
A longtime favorite among European and North American travelers, the Riviera Maya is rolling out the rainbow carpet for LGBT travelers with welcoming properties of all sizes and budgets, including all-inclusives. You’ll also find that you can easily choose between family-friendly accommodations or adults-only hotels.
Zahra, Cabañas Copal, Azulik are some of the most LGBT-friendly properties in Tulum, while Playa del Carmen has Hacienda Paradise and Playa Palms, among others; these are not far from Playa 69, which has been a favorite gay club in Playa del Carmen’s Fifth Avenue for years. The latter two are members of the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association. Other IGLTA hotels include Aventura Spa Palace, Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Isla Mujeres Palace, Illusion Boutique Hotel, Maroma Resort & Spa and Reina Roja Hotel, which features a rooftop pool.
