February 22 - 26, 2012
FedEx Cup – PGA Tour – Mayakoba Golf Classic
In its brief history, Mexico’s only PGA TOUR event, the Mayakoba Golf Classic, has established itself as a favorite among the world’s top golfers. The Mayakoba Golf Classic made golf history in 2007 when it became the first PGA TOUR event played South of the Border – in a location other than USA or Canada.

The tournament has experienced a steady growth since Fred Funk won the very first 2007 tournament and expects to welcome 132 PGA TOUR professionals again in February 2012. Players apparently love the location, sighting Riviera Maya as a favorite travel destination for their families.
The Mayakoba Golf Classic is played at the fantastic El Camaleón Golf Club at the Mayakoba resort, managed by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. Designed by Greg Norman “The Shark”, who won over 60 titles around the globe during his professional golfing career. Norman has designed more than fifty golf courses spanning four continents. El Camaleón Golf Course is a unique 7,039-yard layout. There is no other like it in the world. The course bends through three distinct landscapes - tropical jungle, dense mangroves, and oceanfront stretches of sand with holes bisected by massive limestone canals. Incorporated in the design is also a cenote, (pronounced say-NOH-tay) or crystal-water-filled sink hole, or cavern. In the Yucatán there are over 3,000 cenotes, with only 1,400 actually studied and registered. This massive natural wonder is located on the opening fairway.
Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, México is 35 miles south of Cancún in the heart of the Riviera Maya on the Caribbean Sea.
The defending 2011 champion is Johnson Wagner.
2012 Purse is $3.7 million USD
