Yaxche (pronounced Jag-shey) is a beautiful Maya Cuisine Restaurant in the heart of Playa del Carmen. The ambiance is inspired by nearby Mayan Temples and the food reflects traditional flavors of the Yucatan. The ambiance at Yaxche will transport your special event or wedding into the world of the Maya.

The restaurant's owner, Ramón Alberto Lizaola, gained a strong affinity for the Maya from his grandfather. He dreamed of introducing people to the Maya through their cuisine and the Yaxche Maya Cuisine Restaurant is the fulfillment of his dream.  After years of researching Maya recipes, Ramón Lizaola created the menu items.  His mother, experienced with Maya ingredients and dishes, worked with a world-class chef from Switzerland's famous Cordon Blue to test the restaurant's offerings. The result was a fusion of Maya, Yucatecan, and European cuisine.



The chef's modifications to tradition have created an upscale Maya cuisine a bit more appealing to the European and American palates. Leaner meats are used, than that used in authentic Maya cooking and authentic Maya condiments, spices and locally grown produce are always used. Vegetarian, the main diet of the Maya is also well represented on t he Yaxche menu. Some dishes are unchanged, and cooked in the traditional ways. Others are Maya with a twist.

The restaurant works with those planning weddings and events to create custom menus.  Music, DJs, flowers, mariachis and entertainment – or a fully traditional Mayan wedding are all easily arranged. The Yaxche wedding coordinator can also arrange for a justice, shaman, minister or priest for the legal wedding paperwork.  The dining room is air-conditioned with a lovely garden area complete with fountains, frescos and designs that echo those found in the Tulum ruins.

The restaurant can seat 134 guests, including 35 in the garden.

Located on Playa del Carmen's famous pedestrian thoroughfare, 5th Avenue, and 22nd Street, Yaxche is easy to find from anywhere in Playa del Carmen. The restaurant is on 8th Street, between 5th and 10th Avenues. Mayacuisine.com
