Visiting By Cruise Ship
Visiting for just one day by cruise ship?
Carnival Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Princess Cruise Lines all have Western Caribbean itineraries that will include Cozumel as a port of call. There are several different piers in Cozumel where your ship may dock. One is downtown, the Punta Langosta Pier and the others are just a short taxi ride or walk into town.
For cruise ship passengers, Cozumel and Riviera Maya (the mainland) offer an enormous opportunity for shore excursions, tours and day trips on land and on the water. It's fast and easy to travel by modern ferry, with full amenities, from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen - in the heart of Riviera Maya (about 45 minutes south of Cancun). The ferries depart almost every hour, on the hour (with the exception of inclement weather) and tickets can be purchased right at the pier in downtown Cozumel for approximately $16USD round trip, per person. The ferry ride takes only about 30 minutes each way.
The most popular shore excursions in the Riviera Maya (or Costa Maya) can be booked directly with the tour operators you'll find in our Activities directory. Shore excursions should be booked early if you're short on time, especially the most popular day trips such as; golf and boat trips, swimming with the dolphins - or dolphin encounters, archeological sites and Mayan ruins, sailing, zip lines, eco- adventures, eco or nature parks, adventure parks with horseback riding and off road safaris and cultural parks like Xcaret, Explor, SELVÁTICA, Xel-Ha.
If you prefer to luxuriate the day away from your cruise ship, visit Riviera Maya and book a day spa, rent a private beach front lounge for the day (nearly all are just steps from the nearest beach front bar), or stroll Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue) which offers literally a mile of silver jewelry, clothing, souvenir shops, bars and restaurants.
You're sure to want to return again in the future as an overnight guest, to explore and experience more of Riviera Maya and the incredible hotels and resorts it has to offer!
